Optimist Music ZA, born Thabo Musa on 1 November 1996 in Pretoria, Gauteng, South Africa, is a singer, songwriter, producer, and one of the rising voices in the country’s contemporary dance music sphere. Growing up immersed in the rich musical culture of Pretoria, he began exploring music at a young age, performing in school choirs and experimenting with rap, R&B, and soul before finding his place in South Africa’s vibrant Amapiano and Afro‑house movement.
Known for his rhythmic versatility and melodic sensibilities, Optimist Music ZA delivers tracks that blend deep Amapiano grooves, soulful vocal delivery, and energetic dancefloor appeal. He first gained widespread recognition with the breakout hit “French Kiss”, a collaboration featuring DBN Gogo and President Ya Flaka Dinho, which achieved Gold certification and garnered millions of streams, firmly establishing him as a talent to watch.
Throughout his career, Optimist has worked with some of the biggest names in South African music, including Kabza De Small, DJ Maphorisa, Tyla, TXC, Uncle Waffles, Tyler ICU, Musa Keys, and Tony Duardo, showcasing his ability to adapt across different styles and creative partnerships.
